Sten mkII to mkV conversion project

The idea here is to take a pair of AGM mkII Sten's and using as many genuine or reproductio parts as possible to convert them to mkV's ,the project is aimed at the highest standard possible but at the same time showing how it could be done more simply as a DIY . This project has been on the books since before completion of the Owen gun but has been stalled several times waiting for components so to me its felt like it started long ago but in fact I only started cutting metal today . One of the important design ideals I've been tasked to achieve is to have the stock to be fitted in the proper easy clip on way of the original using a sprung button design ,I'm working with a pair of genuine stocks and genuine spring caps that incorporate the take down button .the spring caps fit inside the receiver tube perfectly however part of the space contains the gearbox motor so a section needs to be cut away ,the next thing is the hole on the rear sight barrel band assembly ,this is a small threaded hole in the AGM but I need it to be 15.6mm for the button on the spring cap to go through so it was bored out on the lath ,the lath means I can do this accurately but a hand drill and files would also work . In the real gun the spring cap would be under compression from the main spring ,while the air soft gearbox occupies much of the space where the main spring would go however I plan to use a narrower spring that goes over the top of the motor and butt up against the back of the gearbox to act on the spring cap ,this will not unfortunately go all the way forward to the fake bolt so I plan on adding some sections of spring on to the rear of the fake bolt to make it look like a complete spring ,these fake spring sections will be further out than the real spring so when the bolt is pulled back to open the ejection port they will move past and over the real spring ,its not perfect but will look heaps better than standard AGM.

I'm afraid I don't know exactly as I did not pay for all the bits myself but somewhere between five and six hundred pounds I'd guess .

I've got to say when you hold these they make you feel belligerent in a way the mk2 just does not ,the mk2 just feels like waving a bit of plumbing at the enemy by comparisom,I guess its the extra weight and solidity .Thanks for the kind words ,the first one terned out nice ,I just need to finish the second ,its a bit of a pity that I won't be able to do photos of the two completed guns together but the first one is leaving after lunch Tuesday to a new life abroad .

Well I just did all the little details that were left to do on the second one and its now in Painty bits hanging from my workshop roof awaiting a third coat of paint ,I still have to make up a connection piece to fit a silenced front end with built in tracer unit that Chris wants for it .
